3 Ways to Show Gratitude to Your Readers
- Home3 Ways to Show Gratitude to Your Readers
It’s Thanksgiving week, and I want to thank you for being part of my family! I was thinking about gratitude and how grateful I am that you read my articles, publish your books with me, coach with me, or come to my retreats. You trust me with your ideas and words….and I am deeply honored by that trust.
So how can we authors show our gratitude to our readers?
First, by meeting them where they are. When you write with a keen understanding of the struggles, hopes, dreams, and goals of your readers, they can feel it. Remember the last time you read a book that you felt spoke to you directly? You probably wondered how the author had gotten into the conversation in your head.
When you take the time to learn about your ideal reader, you’ll naturally write in a way that is respectful and acknowledges their strengths and challenges. That’s a powerful way to express your gratitude.
Next, show gratitude by presenting your work in the most professional and easy-to-read format as possible. If readers must plow through a lot of extraneous information before they get to the heart of your book, you waste their time and energy. If your book is full of typos or improperly formatted, it signals that you don’t care enough about your words or their experience to provide a professional presentation. Good editing and formatting show that you care enough to give readers your very best.
Finally, you show gratitude to your readers when you express your deepest truth. In these challenging times, people are looking for leadership, for encouragement, and for answers, no matter what side of the political debate they take. Our world is a troubling place right now. Readers turn to books for comfort, inspiration, and information.
When you take a stand, and express your ideas powerfully and respectfully, you honor your readers by showing them who you are and where you stand. Not everyone may agree with your ideas, but those readers who you are meant to serve will be glad that wrote a book specifically for them.
Whether you are writing books, blog posts, or even a script for a podcast, use these three tips to give your readers thanks and appreciation. They will respond by wanting to read more of your writing.
May you have a blessed and happy Thanksgiving. If you are outside the USA as I am, take a few moments this week to celebrate your blessing too. Gratitude knows no boundaries.
