Looking Back and Looking Ahead: 2013 Trends
- HomeLooking Back and Looking Ahead: 2013 Trends
I get nostalgic during this quiet week between holidays. Its fun to look back to see all the changes that have occurred and then to look forward into the brand new year.
First, congratulate you on making it through the wild ride of 2012. It was a year of intense change for everyone I know, including myself. Some of the changes were joyful, some heart-wrenching but each change and challenge helped us to become stronger and more resilient.
The game of life and business has changed. People are seeking connection, truth, and integrity. The old ways of smoke and mirrors marketing, shady techniques, and hype-filled claims of instant riches are fading away – Hooray!
Some of the Internet marketers who were all the rage ten years ago are nowhere to be found today. We’re seeing a new group of leaders emerge; thought leaders with a heart centered message and a ‘good guy’ mindset.
This is a time worth celebrating!
So, on this very last weekend of 2012, I invite you to reflect on these questions in your journal:
1. How have I grown over the past year?
2. What do I need to let go of and forgive myself/others for?
3. How can I be more of myself in 2013 in my life, my writing, and my business?
Then, take some paper and write a list of what would make your heart sing in 2013. Set your intentions for what you want to experience and how you want to feel. Put that paper in a safe place and don’t look at it until this time next year. You will be amazed at how many things on your list come to life.
This is an old exercise, a classic shall we say, but it works. Clean the slate by journaling about your past year, forgive where needed, and then set your course for the year ahead by setting intentions.
My wish is that you step into 2013 with your heart wide open, willing to share who you really are in your writing and in your work.
Happy New Year!
P.S. Here are a few trends I’m seeing that may be helpful to consider.
***More direct teaching- you’ve asked and I’ve listened. Look forward to more training from me in 2013. The first one will be coming up on Jan 8. How can you give your clients more of you?
***More conversation and connection-I’m seeing a decline in the popularity of home study courses and passive programs with an increase in 1:1 instruction and participatory experiences. People want connection and support more than just knowledge today.
***More done-for-you services- many people just don’t want to learn how to create a website or program their shopping cart. I predict an increase in outsourcing over 2013 but with vendors who can deliver results that bring in income.
***More unique programs and books- the cookie cutter approach to life and business isn’t working any more. Building on your unique viewpoints, experiences, and yes, your quirks, will become increasingly important in a crowded marketplace. I’m going to help you embrace this concept in the training call on Jan 8.
What do you think about these trends?
